The Big Hoot will be joined by mini owlets designed by local school children and teachers, which will appear in parliaments across the city to create the schools trail.
The Little Hoot is integral to the main event, with an education programme open to all schools in the city. It will feature up to 60 owlet sculptures (90cm tall), which will be decorated by students and teachers.
During March-May 2018, all the owlets will be publicly exhibited in local clusters ‘parliaments’ for the duration of the event. They will complement and add real value to the main Big Hoot trail, showcasing the creativity of Auckland’s youngest citizens, before being returned to their schools.
Each participating school will receive an owlet sculpture, paints from our official Paint and Colour Partner Resene and an extensive downloadable curriculum linked Education Resource Pack. The pack puts creativity at the heart of a programme of study designed to complement existing curriculum areas such as Art, English, Design and Science.
There will be downloadable trail maps and a Big Hoot app encouraging people to get together, explore their city on foot and enjoy sculpture spotting!
