From the 3rd of March to mid-May 2018 the streets, parks, malls and public spaces in Auckland will be brought to life with parliaments of owls that demonstrate NZ’s creative talent and engage the public in a diverse array of art.
Making art fun and accessible for all ages, the 47 large owl-works – each a bespoke work of art, stand at 1.65m tall on The Haier Big Hoot Auckland 2018 art trail. Showcasing a range of Kiwi artists from across New Zealand along with a couple of International artists, these individually designed and unique works are sure to have an impact!
Offering great, free family entertainment exploring Auckland and tracking down each owl, which can be found using the trail map within the Big Hoot 2018 app – available to download from the App Store or Google Play, and the ability to collect rewards as you go.
At the end of the trail the 47 large owl-works will be auctioned off on Tuesday the 29th of May to then fly onto their next destination. All funds raised at the auction will go towards ensuring Child Cancer Foundation continues to provide practical, emotional and financial support to Kiwi kids with cancer and their families.
Joining the large owls on the art trail are smaller owlets (90cm) – designed by Auckland primary, intermediate and secondary school students.
We would like to thank all the artists for their incredible creativity, hard work and support of Child Cancer Foundation. We can’t wait to walk the Haier Big Hoot trail in and around Auckland, and see all the stunning owl-works on display and people interacting with them!
