Wayne Youle was born in Porirua and is of Nga Puhi, Ngati Whakaeke and Pakeha descent. He was the recipient of the 2010 Rita Angus Residency and the SCAPE Artspace artist-in-residence, Sydney. He now lives and works in Amberley, north of Christchurch.
Wayne’s humorous and confrontational works consider Māori and Pākehā (European) relationships. Like many artists of his generation, he looks to Pop Art for inspiration with bright saturated colours, hard-edged style and appropriated imagery.
Wayne completed a Bachelor of Design at the Wellington Polytechnic School of Design (1999) and his work is held in many public and private collections here in Aotearoa and overseas.
